Cheapest paid site we can price on this page: Pixel Park - Macleod Trail SE at $0.60/kWh — about $11 per 100 km, the same as buying petrol at 121¢/L.

Tesla’s Calgary presence is split between two quite different products that often get lumped together. Superchargers are high-power DC sites built for travel, with many stalls in one place and the highest ports-per-site count of any network in the city — one Calgary Supercharger alone accounts for dozens of stalls. Destination chargers are Level 2 units at hotels, restaurants and businesses, installed for people who are staying a while, and they are no faster than any other Level 2 charger.

Both use the NACS connector, Tesla’s standard, which has been adopted as an SAE standard and is being taken up by other manufacturers. The direction of travel matters for non-Tesla drivers in Calgary: some Supercharger sites now carry Magic Dock hardware that lets CCS vehicles plug in, and a growing number of new EVs ship with a NACS port natively. Which specific Calgary sites are open to other brands changes over time, so the Tesla app is the authority.

Practically, Superchargers remain the smoothest charging experience available if you drive a Tesla — the car handles authentication and payment, there is no app to open, and stall counts are high enough that queuing is rare outside long-weekend peaks. That reliability is a large part of why Supercharger access has become a factor in buying decisions well beyond Tesla’s own model range.

What charging costs in Calgary

Charging rates are set per site and are not published in any single feed the way pump prices are. Where the open data records a rate we show it on the charger — that covers 15 of the 26 sites on this page. Converted to the distance you actually drive, public charging in Calgary works out like this:

How you chargeTypical ratePer 100 kmSame as petrol at
Free public charging13 sites, almost all Level 2No charge$0
Charging at home overnightTypical Calgary all-in residential rate, energy plus delivery~$0.20/kWh$3.6040¢/L
DC fast, billed by the kilowatt-hour1 sites, all at this rate$0.60/kWh$11121¢/L
Filling up with regularCalgary average across 303 tracked stations181.6¢/L$16182¢/L

How these are worked out. A mid-size EV using 18 kWh per 100 km, compared against a gasoline car burning 8.9 L per 100 km. Hourly rates assume 7.2 kW — what most cars actually draw on a 240-volt stall, regardless of how the stall is rated. Per-minute rates assume a session averaging 80% of the site's rating and never more than 100 kW, well under a big cabinet's headline number because charging tapers as the battery fills and your car sets its own ceiling. Alberta winters cut real-world range, so expect to pay 20–40% more per kilometre between November and March. These are planning estimates, not quotes: confirm the live rate in the network's own app before you plug in. Pump prices come from our Calgary gas price tracker, updated four times a day.

Tesla: FAQ

Can a non-Tesla EV charge at a Calgary Supercharger?

At some sites. Tesla has been opening Superchargers to other brands through Magic Dock hardware, and vehicles with a native NACS port can use them directly. Which Calgary locations are currently open to non-Tesla vehicles varies and changes over time, so check the Tesla app before relying on one.

What is the difference between a Supercharger and a Tesla Destination charger?

Speed and purpose. Superchargers are DC fast chargers built for travel, adding hundreds of kilometres of range per hour across many stalls. Destination chargers are Level 2 units at hotels and businesses, adding roughly 30–50 km per hour, meant for cars parked for the evening. Both appear on this page; the level badge on each card tells you which is which.

How do I pay at a Tesla Supercharger in Calgary?

If you drive a Tesla, you do not do anything — the car authenticates on plug-in and the session bills to the payment method on your Tesla account. Non-Tesla drivers using a Magic Dock site start and pay for the session through the Tesla app.

Do I need an adapter to charge a Tesla on other Calgary chargers?

For Level 2, yes — the J1772 adapter supplied with the car, which works on essentially every non-Tesla Level 2 stall in Calgary. For CCS DC fast charging you need a separate CCS adapter, which is sold separately and is not compatible with every model year.
