FLO is a Quebec-based network and one of the few large charging operators headquartered in Canada, which shows in its coverage — it has a substantial Calgary footprint and a national roaming network that makes it useful well beyond the city. For drivers making longer Alberta trips, a FLO account is one of the more practical ones to hold.
What distinguishes FLO from the other large networks in Calgary is the mix. Where most operators here are almost entirely Level 2, a meaningful share of FLO’s Calgary sites are DC fast units, giving it the strongest fast-charging presence of any single network in the city. That makes FLO disproportionately useful for the trips where charging speed actually determines your plans, rather than just topping up while parked.
FLO also operates the public-facing side of chargers installed by municipalities, utilities and businesses across the province, so a FLO-branded unit may be owned by a city or a property owner with its own pricing. How these are worked out. A mid-size EV using 18 kWh per 100 km, compared against a gasoline car burning 8.9 L per 100 km. Hourly rates assume 7.2 kW — what most cars actually draw on a 240-volt stall, regardless of how the stall is rated. Per-minute rates assume a session averaging 80% of the site's rating and never more than 100 kW, well under a big cabinet's headline number because charging tapers as the battery fills and your car sets its own ceiling. Alberta winters cut real-world range, so expect to pay 20–40% more per kilometre between November and March. Does FLO have DC fast chargers in Calgary?
Yes, and proportionally more than most networks operating here. A substantial minority of FLO’s Calgary sites are DC fast rather than Level 2, which is unusual — most large networks in the city are almost entirely Level 2. What connectors do FLO chargers use?
FLO Level 2 stations use the standard J1772 connector, which fits essentially every EV sold in Canada, including Teslas with the supplied adapter. FLO DC fast stations typically offer both CCS and CHAdeMO. The connectors reported for each site are listed on its card above.
Is FLO cheaper than other Calgary networks?
Not reliably. Rates are set per site and vary with the owner and the charging speed, so a FLO stall may be cheaper or more expensive than a nearby competitor a few blocks away.
