About CheapGasCalgary.ca
Built by Calgary drivers, for Calgary drivers.
Our Mission
Filling a tank in Calgary can cost anywhere from $60 to over $120 depending on your vehicle. With prices fluctuating daily — and sometimes multiple times in a single day — it can be hard to know whether you're getting a fair deal. CheapGasCalgary.ca exists to give every driver in the city clear, up-to-date pricing information so you can make a confident, informed decision at the pump.
We're not a gas station, an oil company, or affiliated with any fuel brand. We're an independent information tool with a simple goal: help Calgarians save money on one of their biggest recurring household expenses.
Where Does the Data Come From?
Gas prices are sourced from a Canadian fuel price data API. This API aggregates price reports from a combination of commercial data partnerships and community-submitted reports. We poll this API every hour and store the results in our own database.
Because the data is third-party sourced, there can occasionally be a lag between when a station changes its price at the pump and when that change appears on our site. Price updates at the major chains typically propagate within one to two hours. We always timestamp when a price was last recorded so you know exactly how fresh it is.
Coverage
We currently cover regular (87 octane) gasoline at stations within the City of Calgary and immediate surrounding communities. This includes stations operated under brands such as:
- Shell
- Petro-Canada
- Esso / Imperial Oil
- Co-op (Calgary Co-operative Association)
- Costco Gas Bars
- Husky
- Pioneer
- Canadian Tire Gas Bar
We plan to add diesel and premium pricing in a future update. If you notice a station missing from our database, please let us know.
No Affiliation with Any Fuel Brand
CheapGasCalgary.ca is completely independent. We receive no compensation from any gas station, fuel company, or oil refinery. Our only revenue source is small contextual advertisements displayed on the site. These ads do not influence the order in which stations appear — sorting is always by price (cheapest first) and/or distance from your location.
Privacy Commitment
When you use the "Nearest to Me" feature, your GPS coordinates are used only in your browser session to query nearby stations. We do not store, log, or sell your location. For full details, please read our Privacy Policy.
Editorial Standards
All articles and explainers published on CheapGasCalgary.ca are written and reviewed by our editorial team — Calgary-based contributors with backgrounds in local consumer-finance journalism and energy market research. Before any article is published we cross-check the factual claims against at least one of the following primary sources:
- Pump prices: our own hourly price feed and historical database, plus the public Kalibrate Canada / GasBuddy public pages for spot checks.
- Wholesale (rack) prices: the publicly posted Edmonton terminal rack postings from Petro-Canada / Suncor and Cenovus, and NRCan's wholesale prices report.
- Crude oil benchmarks: the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) and the St. Louis Fed FRED series for WTI (DCOILWTICO).
- Taxes & carbon levy: the federal Greenhouse Gas Pollution Pricing Act schedules and the Alberta Government's official fuel tax pages.
- Regulatory & competition issues: Canadian Competition Bureau reports on retail gasoline pricing and the Calgary Herald / Globe and Mail business sections.
We do not accept payment for editorial placement and we do not publish sponsored content. Articles are reviewed for accuracy at least every six months, and the "Last reviewed" date on each article reflects the most recent fact-check. If you find an error, please email us via the Contact page and we will correct it and note the change at the bottom of the article.
Corrections Policy
When we publish a correction we update the affected article, change the "Last reviewed" date, and — for material corrections (a wrong number, a misattributed statement, an incorrect tax rate) — add a dated note at the bottom of the article describing what changed and why. Minor typo fixes are not annotated.
