How the "nearest station" search works

When you tap "Allow location" your browser shares your latitude and longitude with this page. We send those coordinates to our backend, which queries the database for stations within your chosen radius and returns them sorted by distance. The coordinates are not logged on our servers and are not associated with any account or identifier — Calgary drivers are anonymous to us by design. If you prefer not to share GPS, you can search by Calgary postal code instead; we map the first three characters (the forward sortation area) to a representative point and search from there.

How wide a radius makes sense in Calgary depends on where you are. Inside the inner city — Beltline, Bridgeland, Hillhurst, Kensington — there are usually half a dozen stations within a 3 km radius, so 5 km is plenty. Out in the newer suburbs like Mahogany, Cranston, Sage Hill or Symons Valley, station density drops, and a 10–15 km radius is more realistic. The suburbs also tend to have more discount and warehouse fuel options (Costco, Co-op gas bars), so a slightly wider search often surfaces a meaningfully cheaper price.

Nearest is not always cheapest

The list below is sorted by distance by default, but each card shows the regular price too. Two things to keep in mind:

  • Routine fill-ups should optimise for time, not pennies. If you fill up twice a month on your commute home, the closest station on your route wins almost every time. Shaving 3¢/L on a 45-litre tank is $1.35 — not worth a 15-minute detour through traffic.
  • Long-trip fill-ups should optimise for price. Heading to Banff, Drumheller, or down to Lethbridge? Top up at the cheapest station you can find before leaving Calgary. Highway-exit gas in southern Alberta can run 10–20¢/L higher than what you'd pay in the city, and you'll burn more fuel on the trip than on a commute.
  • Watch the brand pattern. Costco, Co-op and Canadian Tire gas bars are usually a few cents under the majors at any moment, but they cluster in specific parts of the city. If one shows up in your radius, it's almost always worth a look. Pioneer and most independents also tend to price competitively to draw traffic away from the chains.

You can refine the list using the distance and maximum price filters once your location loads. As with the cheapest-today page, prices come from a feed that refreshes hourly, so confirm the pump display before you start fuelling.
